Odoo

Is Odoo right for your business? An honest checklist

Odoo is a great fit for many growing businesses, but not all of them. Here's how to tell which side of the line you're on.

We implement Odoo for a living, so you might expect us to say it’s right for everyone. It isn’t. Here’s the checklist we use in discovery conversations.

Signs Odoo is likely a strong fit

  • You’re juggling several disconnected tools. Sales in one place, stock in another, accounting in a third, with spreadsheets filling the gaps.
  • Operations and finance need to share the same data. You buy, hold, make or ship physical goods, or you bill for projects and time, and you want the numbers to flow through without re-keying.
  • You expect to grow. Odoo is modular: you can start with a handful of apps and add eCommerce, manufacturing, helpdesk or field service when you’re ready, without switching platforms.
  • You’re open to adapting some processes. Odoo is flexible, but the best outcomes come from businesses willing to adopt standard workflows where their current way of working isn’t a genuine advantage.

Signs you might want to pause

  • You only need bookkeeping. If a straightforward accounting package covers everything you do, a full business platform may be more than you need today.
  • Your core process is highly specialised. Some industries have mature vertical software that handles very specific regulation or workflows. Odoo can often integrate with it rather than replace it.
  • There’s no one to own it. Any new system needs an internal champion. Without one, even the best implementation will struggle.

Community, Enterprise, and where it runs

Odoo comes in two editions. Community is open source and free to use; Enterprise is a paid subscription that adds a number of apps and features, along with official support and upgrades. It can run on Odoo’s own cloud (Odoo Online), on Odoo.sh, or on infrastructure you manage yourself.

Which combination makes sense depends on the apps you need, how much you’ll customise, and who will look after the platform. We’ll walk you through the trade-offs with your real requirements in front of us.

Still not sure?

That’s what the first conversation is for. Tell us about your business and we’ll give you a straight answer, even if it’s “not yet”.

Let’s get you all set.

Tell us where the business is today and where it needs to go. A 30-minute call is usually enough to know whether Odoo, and we, are the right fit.
